FROM CHIEF INSTRUCTOR SHAZ - THE NEW ADVANCED RESUSCITATION TECHNIQUES (ARTC) AWARD

You should be aware from Circular CO10026, 17 June 2010; a new award titled ‘Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate’ has been introduced by SLSA.

The existing SLSA Advanced Resuscitation Certificate (ARC) and SLSA Defibrillation Certificate no longer exist, but have been joined together to make the new award, ‘Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate’.

Members who are currently proficient in both ARC and Defibrillation will automatically be given the new award and the associated Unit of Competency – HLTFA404B Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques.  No action is required by clubs or individuals.

There are a number of pathways to achieve the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate: -these are detailed in the attachments. There is also a list of who has both ARC & Defib and those with ARC who will need to do their Defib.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK – SPECIAL OFFER

I have ONE Entertainment book which I am willing to sell for $60 to the first person who contacts me. The full $60 will go to the Club.

SHAGS ON SUNDAY MORNINGS

South Port Shivering Shags now have 32 paid up members on the books. Maybe it’s the cold morning or the number of life saving events on during the winter but attendances on Sunday mornings have been only averaging 20 this year. The Shags donated $1600 dollars to the Club to assist in the purchase of new chairs for the Club’s social area.

SOCIALISING AT THE CLUB DURING WINTER.

There is usually a good gathering down the Club on Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I know the weather is cold but the fire in the Club makes it a toasty warm place. Why even the Shags had the fire on last Sunday morning – are they getting soft!!!!

2010 POOL CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD IN MAY

Due to a clash with an IRB carnival, we only had a small contingent compete at this event. Jake Mckenzie got a 3rd in the U/17 Male 200m Obstacle race, a 2nd in the U/17 male 100 m Manikin carry with fins, and a 1st in the Open 200m Obstacle race. Dana Clappis got a 2nd in the Open female 100 m Manikin carry with fins. Well done to those who competed. Devo sent a pointed letter to SLSSA complaining about SLSSA events being scheduled on the same day.

COUPLE OF CLUB MEMBERS HOSPITALISED

Called in to Flinders to see David (Wal) Watt and Derek (Candles) Wix on Sunday after Shags. Wal just had a hip replacement & was progressing well – on the walking frame already. Candles had abdominal surgery & will need some Chemo just to ensure everything is clear. I think he left hospital yesterday. We wish them a speedy recovery & look forward to catching up with them down the Club soon.
